Hit Or Miss: Kim Kardashian

Kim K. was recently spotted rocking cornrows and I must say, despite all the negative comments I've heard, I still think they look kind of cute on her. What do you guys think? Is it a hit or a miss?

Here she is close up. (BTW she looks gorgeous without all that makeup!).

Know What You Are Putting On Your Body

Most of us are really picky about what kind of food we eat but we aren't really that picky when it comes to what we put on our skin. A lot of products out today are full of carcinogens and ingredients that are known to be dangerous for humans and bad for the environment. Next time you are shopping for a new lotion, shampoo, or blush just do a quick search for the product on Skin Deep's cosmetic safety database to find out whether the product you swear by may be harming you. I'm not telling you what you should or shouldn't buy but you should at least know what you are putting on your body.

Ring in 2011 In Style

Hey guys! Since the new year is quickly approaching I decided to do a post of some of my favorite celebrity inspired New Year's Eve looks. No item is priced over $50 and each individual look is less than $100.

1. Lucy Hale Pretty Little Liars

My first look is inspired by one of Lucy Hale's promo pics for her TV show Pretty Little Liars.

And here's how I recreated the look.

2. My second look is inspired by a dress that Rihanna wore during one of her performances. Here's the look on her.

And here's how I recreated it.

3. This is probably my favorite look of the three. It was inspired by Halle Berry at this year's Spike TV Scream Awards. Here's the look on her.

And here's how I recreated it.

Hit Or Miss: Halle Berry

Halle Berry arrived at the LA premiere of her new movie Frankie and Alice wearing a black and gold Balmain suit. Personally, I usually think Halle looks absolutely amazing but I really just am not feeling this look. The suit fits her extremely well however, the pattern combined with the gold sparkle is just overkill.

What do you guys think? Is this a hit or a miss?

Young Fearless Hollywood

I am about three months late seeing this, but I recently saw a cover for Fearless Magazine featuring 8 young black actresses. Dubbed the class of 2010, Fearless Magazine defines the women as "young women who continue to pursue their dreams regardless of obstacles". I am a huge supporter of positive female images and seeing this really made my day. It would be nice if more positive images of women, especially women of color, were shown so that young girls would see that they can aspire to be more than just a groupie, baby mama, or dependent on some man for their very existence. Everyday, young women set goals and build successful careers (and they look good doing it!). There's no reason you can't do the same thing. Aim high. How big you dare to dream and how hard you are willing to work are the only things that can limit you!

Unfortunately, some of these actresses have yet to get the recognition they deserve which leaves them almost unrecognizable to a substantial portion of the public. So allow me to introduce them.

1. Tia Mowry

Tia is probably most famous for her role with her twin sister on SIster, Sister. However she has also done a number of movies and is currently starring in her own hit TV show The Game which will begin airing in early January on BET.

2. Lauren London

Unfortunately, many people only know her as one of Lil Wayne's baby mama's. I think we are all allowed some missteps and that is definitely one of hers. But she is also an actress. Though her resume isn't that great just yet, I think we just may be seeing more from her in the future. I'm rooting for her!

3. Naturi Naughton

Most people know Naturi from her days as a member of the R&B singing trio 3LW but these days she has ventured into acting and even made an appearance in season 4 of the Emmy award winning series Mad Men.

4. Monique Coleman

If you have a tween (or even know one), then I'm sure you have seen this girl many times. She rose to fame with the successful High School Musical franchises. She also competed on season 3 of Dancing With the Stars finishing 4th place (another robbery if you ask me!). Hopefully soon she'll be able to break away from her Disney background and enter a more mature career.

5. Jennifer Freeman

Jennifer starred along side Damon Wayans in the hit ABC series My Wife and Kid's. She has also guest starred in a number of other shows and was even a spokesperson for Neutrogena. She is currently married and a young mom to a 1 year old daughter.

6. Kyla Pratt

Kyla starred in her own television series, One on One, for a number of seasons. She also starred in the Dr. Dolittle movies and voiced Penny Proud for the hit Disney animated series The Proud Family.

7. Tiffany Hines

Tiffany is currently starring in the hit CW series Nikita.I personally have never watched the show but I hear she's pretty good.

8. Chyna Layne

Chyna is probably most recognized for her portrayal of Rhonda, one of the troubled teens in the Oscar nominated movie Precious. She is also a producer.

So there you have it. The next time someone tells you there are no young, respectable, successful black women in the entertainment industry, send them to this list. And don't forget to check out the website for Fearless Magazine here.

Celebs "Die" For World Aid's Day

In case you didn't know, today is World Aid's Day. We all know that HIV/AIDS is a terrible disease that has stolen many away much too soon. And the worst part is, contracting this disease is completely preventable. If you have the finances, I would encourage you to support AIDS awareness. If you don't have money, there is no excuse as to why you shouldn't take the time to educate yourself because prevention is currently the best weapon we have against this terrible disease. Let's pray that one day we find a cure.

That being said, I found the recent celeb campaign for Keep A Child Alive to be a tad bit disturbing. In honor of World Aids Day, a number of celebs joined Alicia Keys in an effort to draw awareness to the virus by vowing to "die" digitally. That means no twitter or facebook until 1 million dollars is raised for the Keep A Child Alive foundation.

Personally I think the "digital death" is a great idea. However, to me it is a little eery for people to pose in coffins when they aren't actually dead. I don't know why Hollywood is so hell bent on making death look glamorous. If you go to the Keep A Child Alive website, you will see that a number of the participating celebs were not actually photographed in the coffins. But of course, they aren't the ones getting all the press. For the ones that did pose, I guess to each his own. Would I have done it? Absolutely not. But maybe this campaign will actually help to save some lives. At the end of the day that's the most important thing.

Here are a few pics of some of the celebs who posed.

EDIT: Unfortunately this campaign was not successful. The posing in coffins idea was a complete fail! If you think your fans love you so much that they are going to use their hard earned money to give you back your digital life, then why would you think that they would want to see you lifelessly lying in a coffin?? It is beyond disturbing...
